Abstract
Most developed cities in India have, a fairly established network of private travel operators in parallel to governments' initiative. Private travel operators run their business in a very chaotic manner because of the poor infrastructural facilities. Operators have network of their registered booking offices at various places in the city which acts as pickup points for the commuters. Most number of commuters prefers private travel services compare to government services because of their services, frequencies, high- tech and comfortable buses etc.
This project offers a system level solution to overcome the problems occur by the conflicts between government and private sector services. As an urban strategy, this project offers a centralize platform for private travel operators to run their business from allotted site. Such site can be located on the ring-road of any Indian cities. There are many advantages of this project such as, commuter have to a centralized terminus faculties where they can select and plan their travel; while operators are getting more number of footfall and fully functional infrastructure to run their business.
Primary idea of this project is to design a prototype bus terminus which programme is adaptable to any Indian cities. Such generic prototype starts getting specific architectural characteristics once it becomes case specific to any particular city and its context. One of the second tier city of Gujarat state (Rajkot) is taken for the project demonstration.
