NETWORKED PRACTICE OF LEUCHETTURME

A week long collaborative workshop is held at the Bauhaus with students of Historical Urban Studies from the Center for Metropolitan Studies at TU Berlin. The overall focus of the workshop is to discuss the urban planning issues related to the shrinking city of Dessau.

Our team has focused upon the network of Beacons/ Leuchtturme in Dessau. Leuchtturme is an informal organization which is formed by a group of intellectual associated with premiere institutions and social clubs of Dessau. The main objective of this group is to address the socio-cultural issues related to shrinking cities by conducting a set of public events every year.

This field research is an effort to understand how the network of Leuchtturme shapes the knowledgescape of Dessau.

SILENT MORNING IN SHRINKING CITY, DESSAU

This movie is made to express the character of a shrinking city in east Germany during the Christmas Holidays. It fairly explains the critical issues related to street life and public spaces when a city is in a crises to sustain the human capital.

This documentation tries to capture the emptiness/ silence in the cityscape.

HOCHSCHULE ANHALT, DESSAU

This week long exercise is introduced to understand field research methodologies as a part of coursework.

Our team has focused upon the Hochschule Anhalt, Dessau, a technical university which offer graduate and post graduate programs in construction and design. Various field research methods are applied on the case study in order to achieve qualitative and quantitative results. These methods include time-lapse photography of the neighborhood, a questionnaire for the feedback from the students community and geographical mapping of community places in the Dessau.
