Abstract:
SPACPL is well established structural consultancy firm based in Mumbai since 1960s. Their portfolio comprises many infrastructural projects ranging from railways, marine structures and factory buildings to urban scale project management.
This project is a fully automated assembling plant for Skoda Auto, India. All readymade components imported from abroad are assemble in this plant. Overall the building complex is divided into main assembling unit and related ancillary functions. Main assembly building is a large span structure made out of customized steel portal frames. The administration building, houses corporate office, show room, training center and cafeteria. Other ancillary buildings such as production, logistics and services are attached to main assembly building. Assembly and administration blocks are centrally air conditioned buildings along with the dedicated HVAC unit.
Overall the design scheme is governed by the assembly line layout suggested by the client as per the technical requirement. Prefabricated construction methods are adopted in order to justify the short project timeline.
As a trainee architect, this project gives a firsthand practical experience to understand various issues confronted during professional practice.
