Introduction
It is important to refer to architecture from the context in which the building is sited. This has led towards a ‘critical regionalist’ approach to address architectural design. CnT has a few projects in Hyderabad. This city has a rich history, tradition and culture. Simultaneously, the city also defines its new image of being a cosmopolitan Indian cyber city. Any project developed in Hyderabad seeks to address such contextual inquiry with reference to existing traditional and contemporary scenarios.

Scope
This research attempts to understand the architectural characteristics of a few institutional buildings that have historic significance in the development of the city. It also tries to draw parallels to the design process from the traditional arts and crafts of this region.

Limitations
Historic references are compiled from published books. Apart from a few photographs taken during case studies visit, all maps and information related to arts and crafts are compiled from secondary sources such as relevant literature and the internet.

Methodology
This is a documentation research work for which a brief literature survey is being conducted. It includes the documentation process of various buildings having some historic significance. Documentation related to arts and crafts of Andhra-Pradesh is compiled in various formats; available from book and non-book materials. A few case study visits are also attempted in order to gain further insights into the brief. After the survey, overall compilation is structured to prepare an analytical presentation.

Inferences
The inferences are used as design guidelines for the given project.
